We are a small state licensed Nigerian Dwarf Dairy. Our animals are treated like queens and the result is delicious cheese. It is simple, fresh, creamy and has no strong goatie taste.
We believe in selling only fresh cheese so we do not freeze our products or add preservatives. Our chevre, feta and caramel will be available May-October each year. From November-April the goats will be bred and resting up for kidding season in April -June. Goat kids are for sale each spring.
Becoming licensed was an exciting process which included meeting with our state milk inspector, drawing up the plans to convert a garage space between our house and barn, a year of building and finally in August 2012, our inspection! Now we milk about 20 goats each season and are proud to get great milk and cheese test results from the state.
Because they are new to the scene, many wonder about the Nigerian Dwarf Goat’s Dairy Quality. Those who work with them know they are easy to milk, cost less to feed, and produce almost twice as much cheese per gallon of milk because they have the highest butterfat content of any dairy goat. As an added bonus, their size makes them easy for any person young or old to handle. Add all this to the fact that they can be bred any time of the year, making year round milking and cheese production possible, and they are perhaps the most versatile milking goat on the scene!
We want to sell cheese that tastes like summer: fresh memorable, and as delicious as a day spent with friends. Stop by on Saturdays 11-5 from Memorial Day through Halloween to get some for your next dinner, visit with family or picnic. While you are at the farm, visit the animals and cheese kitchen, then you will see the whole process and know the product is something you can feel wonderful about eating.
For Sale 7 Months a Year- Local Treats from your Local Farm
Enjoy our cheese on a cheese plate with slices of bread or as a ingredient in your favorite meal. Above: (left) feta and marinated chevre on a cheese plate, (center) salmon, strawberry and spinach salad with fresh crumbled chevre, (right) feta salad with tomatoes, olives, and peppers.
Many flavors of chevre depending on the season including: Maine Blueberry ginger & lemon, pesto & roasted red pepper, orange, cranberry with honey, and lemon, dill & sumac. Also the old favorites below.
Garden Herbs and Garlic Chevre- We use whatever our herb garden provides, but our favorite combination is usually chives, flat leaf italian parsley and dill. Lovely served with sliced french bread. Also great with smoked salmon on a bagel or bagel crisp.
Marinated Chevre- Topped with cracked pepper and set in a delicious container of olive oil, rosemary, peppercorns, and garlic. Amazing tossed into a cooked pasta with a few sun dried tomatoes for a quick gourmet dinner.
Herbs de Provence Chevre- Classic dried herb chevre with lots of lovely lavender. Seen here with other local cheeses at a event supporting Ferry Beach Ecology School at Cinque Terra in Portland. Want to cook with it? Delicious in an omelet or used in a stuffed chicken breast.
Feta- Feta is a lovely cheese- soft, salty and tasty. Ours gets lots of compliments for being nothing like you might buy in the grocery store and everything like you might taste in Greece. Our neighbor told us he used to be sent off for the day as a child in Greece with a big hunk of bread, a slab of feta and a fresh tomato. I think of that romantic image every time I slice our feta. You can marinate yours to keep it awhile on your counter in a glass jar, or keep it in the fridge as is and enjoy by the date on the container.
16 oz jars of vanilla goat milk yogurt. The perfect breakfast with granola, honey or fruit.
IN 2020 (maybe it was the pandemic’s fault) we really began to lean into the sweet stuff! We know offer our goat milk vanilla caramels dipped in dark chocolate, delicious creamy goat milk fudge, chevre truffles in many flavors including maple, espresso and spicy mayan!
Maine Sea Salt Vanilla Caramels- Soft and chewy, these goat milk caramels are heavenly and highly addictive. The perfect farm treat to share with family and friends or maybe you prefer to hide them as a special treat for yourself! Available late fall and winter when the butterfat content of our milk is the highest.
Delicious goat milk chocolate fudge!
Mexican Cajeta- This caramel sauce is insanely good. We dare you to stop at one spoonful. Made with goat’s milk, real vanilla beans, cinnamon, and sugar. It takes 3-4 hours to become caramel and is worth every minute of careful watching and stirring. Wonderful over ice cream, apple pie or as a dip for sliced fruit. 7oz
Also try our natural soap!
SUNFLOWER FARM GOOD MORNING HONEY SOAP-Since its ingredients are all tasty stuff you might eat for breakfast on a farm we think the name fits!
GOAT MILK is the star of this amazing soap. The cream that is present in goat milk helps boost the moisturizing quality of goat milk soaps. We use late lactation milk which is super high in butterfat. Goat milk soap will not dry your skin out like many other soaps. Goat milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids which help remove dead skin cells from your skin. Goat milk is high in Vitamin A, which helps repair damaged skin tissue. Vitamin A can help to reduce lines and wrinkles, control acne, and provide some psoriasis relief. Goat milk also contains Selenium which has been shown to have an important role in preventing skin cancer. Selenium can also help prevent damage to the skin from excessive time in the sun. Many areas in the Northeast have pastures low in selenium. We supplement our herd with Selenium and copper for their health and soap rich in good minerals is the bonus!
